cleaner shrimp black growth on body

Our tank is 5 weeks old. We have just purchased two cleaner
shrimps 4 days ago. One died on the third morning. This one
has black growth of some sort. A picture is in my gallery.
The store I purchased them from has never heard of this on a
shrimp.

Help someone.

Thanks

Those black spots will go away the first time it molts. Mine had the same thing when I first got it but after it molted they were gone. I have had mine for 8 months now..

uhhh... there was just a thread on this the other day. From my understanding it is a disease that can kill the shrimp, but there is no set time until it dies, some said that they had theirs for a year before it died, they also said not to get any other shrimp until that one is gone so it does not spread. HTH

unfortunately if the shrimp is small it will not survive. I had one with the same thing and he slowly got weaker and died.

The black spots do tend to indicate an incurable disease. The invertebrate forum has more details. You could consider returning the shrimp, if they'll take it back. The spots might disappear with a molt, but they also might come back.

Wow, I was told by many people in the hobby that mine would be okay after a few molts. Oh well, I guess I need to check this out a little more.
