the other night before the lights went out in my tank, everything looked to be ok. When I woke up and the lights were on I found my cleaner shrimp dead. He was very active and eating a lot but then he just up and died. He was only in there for about a week. Could he of been sick when I put him in my tank. My water is very good. Nitrate is even below 20. Does anyone know what could have been wrong. thanks.

did it molt or die? shrimp can die from long aclimation such as drip method. they should go in with 1/2 the amount of tank H2o in bag 5 min. then placed in tank.

5 minutes isn't enough time for acclimation
I've always taken about 45 min & never had a problem

I took about thirty minutes to acclimate. It wasn't molting. He had molted a couple of days before. He was in there for over a week so would a problem in the acclimation take that long to take affect.

There really isn't a good enough way to check for copper, but if the tank has other invertebrates, they might be expected to show problems. What's in the tank?

Might be an acclimation problem, still. I measure the SG in the bag several times while I'm acclimating, and try not to move the SG more than 0.0005 units in about 15 minutes or so, and don't move the animal until the SG in the bag is within that tolerance of the tank.
