Cleaner shrimp rampage!

Ok, maybe not a rampage, but they seem to be pecking/harassing/eating my prized RBTA. He curls up and opens his mouth and they run all over him. Perhaps they are not getting food, my tank is extremely competitive re feedings. I try to spot feed them but it is difficult. Any traps I set for them are quickly filled with other occupants....any suggestions:mad2::mad2:

Have you tried something small like Rotifers or arctipods. I put it in by the powerhead so it floats in the currant. They just jump around and grab it. Or trop some sinking pellets down a tube into a crevice where nothing else can get to. Good luck.

nice shrimp!

The anemone has fish in it?
Fish might guard the anemone from shrimps. If you already have clownfish maybe another (more aggressive) species would protect the anemone better.

No, that is a GREAT idea! I have a huge maroon female in hypo and a pair of, I believe, percula in a frag tank for quarantine. They are going on 2 weeks of quarantine and look great AND they are hosting 1 of the anemones in the frag tank. I feel so much better. I am going to transfer them tonight. I can actually see damage on the side of the anemone that the shrimp are harassing. Maybe I'll bring the maroon out of hypo, she is about as aggressive as they come:hammer:

The next thread will be titled "Clown rampage!"

Try target feeding them like this:

Honestly, I am not sure my shrimp would have a prayer of getting to that krill. My tangs will literally rip a clip off of the wall to get the nori out. I use a long pippette to blow mysis, etc. Back into their caves so hopefully they are getting some. I have to feed by brittle stars individually or they go hungry. Lol on the clown rampage, decided not to put the big maroon in the DT and go with the smaller pair. They are acclimating now

Gary,
thanks so much, the pair of clowns snuggled into the anemone within minutes! It is fully expanded and looks beautiful. its mouth has closed back up (it was continually open before.) What an elegant simple solution. Sort of one of those dooh! moments. There was a bunch of us trying to get those shrimp out of there and none of us considered the clowns:idea:

Your tangs might not have the same reaction to whole krill, or Massivore pellets. Especially if you put it in the tank after feeding them nori. And the plastic grid would make it more difficult for them to get at.

You might also double up the plastic grid, or use a small mesh bag instead, like the kinds some produce come in (like onions).

Do your cleaner shrimps roam the tank at night? You might consider tossing some small NLS pellets in the tank after lights-out.

My cleaner shrimp always bullies my two Occelaris at feeding time. I have to feed the shrimp first, it then gets out of the way and the clowns come in. Silly that a darn shrimp is able to feed before the fish.

It is CRAZY for mysis, brine.. anything meaty/shrimpy, and flake second. Pellets not so much.
