It's is rated at a 3 out of 4 bad/dangerous for horses on a tankmate chart from another forum. I'm sure there are people who have had them together without issue, but likely more than not have had problems.
I a peppermint shrimp in my tank it basically stays in my small in tank refuge sorta thing i made. but i think a cleaner would want to clean the s/h and bug them.
The problem with cleaner shrimp is that they can stress the seahorse trying to clean them. Stress is never good, particularly long term stress, for fish.
Peppermint shrimp normally do well with seahorses.
the reason I asking about a cleaner shrimp is because I lost my female horse this am. I did not see any damaged areas.
I am not posting all the parameters. I had her and a male since 9/10 and a previous male since 7/2010 and up to last nite all was well. She used to hide in the LR caves because I think the 2 males just would not stop. Another female was not available yet. I called the store and thought maybe it was a parasite since I found out they are tank raised and was afraid it would spread. It was then suggested a cleaner shrimp but in my research they were not recommended. I do have 2 peppermint shrimp in the 35 hex tank.
This is why I wanted to see what others have experienced. I definately do not want to add any additional stress to the tank or myself.
Thanks everyone for your support. Charlene
I have a fire shrimp in my Seahorse tank and he doesn't bother the horses at all. I do think that Skunk cleaners would be too aggressive with their "need to clean" to be in the tank with the seahorses.
