Cleaner shrimp with black spots

Should I put my skunk shrimp in my frag tank? He seems to be either struggling or just old - want to save him if I can. Would putting him in a frag tank with basically no "crap" to clean up be the death of him?

I think it's a fine idea. Toss a little food in there for him. The frags need a little Nitrate and Phosphate anyway.

What do you mean by "struggling?"

Sometimes the best thing to do is nothing at all and I don't think a move would be the best idea right now.

You're doing your water changes, right? Sometimes traces can matter in terms of inverts getting nutrients enough to maintain health. Dunno how long a shrimp can live, but I had a couple of micro-shrimp in a glass egg that made it over a decade.

Is it having some trouble in molt?
Or does he perform that task well?

I posted a picture of him. He molted fine, but doesnt seem as active and has the black spots on him.

Where's the pic? Mine has black spots too that have recently shown up. Is that a nutrition issue? He definitely has not been as active lately. I've always had 2 and they keep each other company, set up cleaning stations, have lots of babies(free food). So, thought he may just be lo ely.
Just in case, since I'm home... gonna go feed him.

I think those black spots your seeing is a bacterial disease if I'm not mistaken. There are certain medications that can be used to treat this, but given a healthy diet and optimal water quality it should go away on it's own given time. With each molt there's new hope so to say. The shrimp can die from this ailment too though, so don't be surprised if this happens first. (hopefully not) GL.

I always run iodide at .03-.06, beneficial for shrimps, leathers and gorgonians.
I would have to support the above, bacterial, but I admit, never seen this before.

I also have this problem. My shrimp are new and in QT - I was planning to let them stay there for 2 weeks with no meds, no fish. Do I need to do anything else? Will their black spots bacteria affect any other organisms?

My cleaner shrimp also have black spots on their shells, though not quite as bad as those in the photos above. Just one or two spots slightly larger than a pinhead. Do I need to wait for these to go away before adding them to my display tank? (They are in QT now)

I didn't realize there were photos. I've never seen this before. Hopefully someone else can offer some insight.
