i doubt the wrasse would last long depending on the size of the lion.

i had one with lions and i was ok. mine were the fuzzy dwarf ones.

it will die in the long run from lack of food. they are not commonly known to eat frozen although some do.

Another issue with CW's is that since they're typically starving, they tend to be very insistent and can bug your fish in such an enclosed environment.

In fact, back in the "old daze", I had a CW bug my puffer so badly, the puffer would snap at it to chase it away.

If you want a cleaner, get a single or trio of neon gobies. They actually set up a cleaning station and wait for "customers" to come to them. My fish used to line up each AM for the goby's services.

I am fortunate to have a CW that eats frozen food. He even picks at the algae clip.

Have your LFS do a feeding and see if the fish will eat mysis. Mine ate at the store.

Neon gobies will become food for any size lion you have, they are quite small fish.

Humm...I may just be SOL with the cleaner fish idea LOL.

With cleaners and lions, it's a 50-50 proposition. They may or may not be recognized as a cleaner, so your risk tolerance needs to be geared that way. This is true for any cleaner, fish or shrimp.

Another consideration is that lions shed their cuticles on a regular basis, so they really don't require a cleaner in residence since they get "new clothes" fairly often.

Do they show signs of parasites? They aren't going to get them from no where, and cleaners are basically stepping on an anthill. They do nothing to solve infestation problems.

No they don't show any signs right now. What do you mean by stepping on an anthill?

Neon gobies and cleaner wrasse will eat some parasites off of a fish, but never enough to cleanse them of it. I basically meant that it was like trying to wipe out an ant colony by stepping on their hill and the ants right on it, but there are a thousand more underneath that you (and a neon) can't get to.

Ahhh.... Ok I understand, a little extra help never hurts though. Right now my tank is running great, no problems..that I know of LOL.





I got rid of the lion today, so I may try the Cleaner wrasse after all.
