Cleaner wrasse

I have started my fish tank yet. I read somewhere on RC that wrasses should be introduced first. I was wondering if that is different for a cleaner wrasse or should I want til there are more fish in the tank first to introduce it. TIA.

thank you guys for this thread ! to show those who still cant believe we can keep this animal in captivity for long term ...

looking for a cleaner fish of sorts? either more model citizen? Blue cleaner wrasse or the neon cleaner goby??

Prop frags ....do you notice diffecrence between the two in behavior colors better one one or another??

We like them both a lot as they are quite entertaining. The cleaner wrasse is much more active. The goby is very tiny and perch's on a couple of our monti colonies a lot. Color-wise, they are about the same - the goby sort of looks like a "mini me" cleaner wrasse, LOL. The goby is less assertive when offering his services and mostly waits for the fish to come to him.

Based upon what I read here, would it be safe to assume that it is more difficult to keep a blue cleaner wrasse then it is to keep a neon cleaner goby? Any tips in increasing the survivability of the blue cleaner wrasse (other than just selecting an African specimen)? TIA

We have both. Our Blue streak cleaner wrasse is African. For whatever reason, (collection practices, hardier, easier to switch to aquarium foods?), he has not been difficult to keep at all. He eats anything that will fit into his mouth including algae sheets and is quite plump. The same is true for our goby, although his mouth is even smaller...

I would like to keep clams as well so it's good to know that cleaner wrasses don't bother them. Anyone have a contrary experience?

We catch the cleaner wrasse locally.
Very easy to feed but an absolute PITA with my clams.
Took both of them out my reef tank.

:headwally:

Do not recommend these fish
