cleaning a filter sock

what is the best way to clean a filter soc?. Does any method work that well or do I need to allways but a new one?

I rinse mine quick with hot water. Then rewash with bleach. Wash 2 more times, then air dry to evaporate any leftover chlorine. Works great, never any problems.

Every 5 days or so I rinse in water then throw in to the washer witha little bleach but NO detergent. Then let dry.

I run mine through the washer machine on the cold cycle (no soap, no bleach, just water). Then I turn them inside out and run one more cycle. They come out great.

I've read not to use hot water if you have the plastic collars, however, the cold water works fine.

I've never heard that about not using hot water. I'm interested as to what the reason is behind that. I did it that way for a year before I ditched the filter socks altogether.

I read that it can disintegrate the glue used to hold the plastic ring on the sock over time.

If you buy the Blue Life filter socks.....very popular at LFS's.....they are stiched into the plastic ring

I quickly remove and rinse in a bucket with hot water and some gentle shampoo, no problems. Always keep one or two clean ones on hand.

I save a lot of cash not buying new filter socks at 12 bucks a pop. I change out a set of 4 once a month with water changes weekly.

laundry, bleach, no detergent.... works great. just don't let your wife see the brown water in the washer.
