Cleaning a Skimmer

I am new to this hobby, and new to Reef Central. I bought a used AquaC Remora and I need to clean it. I'm not sure what exactly is in it but I can imagine it's the usual stuff that is found in a cleaner. Is it possible to clean it and get it to look new or close to it? What should I use.

You can use vinegar to do a lot of cleaning, including most white deposits (calcium carbonate). Other than that, you shouldn't need to do much. You can use an acrylic cleaner on the outside if you want to improve the looks.

How often does Remora recommend a complete cleaning? My Prism (hang on back) has been running for five weeks and does not appear to be too dirty...

Cleaning the collection cup is the most frequent piece of work. It should be cleaned once a week or so. Built-up organics on the surface reduce skimming effectiveness, or so we're told.
