When i used to use socks i would install a plastic zipper in them. Then simply unzip, lay them out flat on the concrete and spray out good as new in 30 seconds.
Just a couple wash and rinse cycles for mine. Bleach might make them look clean but I doubt they really are. I used to be able to get them clean enough with a single cycle. But a few months back my wife replaced the top loader with a front load washer. It uses very little water so they don't get cleaned near as well. I should have brought the old machine to the shop instead of paying to have it hauled away.
I have about 15 total and wash them all when I run out of clean ones.
Bleach should help open up the pores however, whether or not it gets them cleaner (I think it does). Downside would be that bleach probably wears them out faster. But they last a long time before needing to be pitched even with bleaching.
