Cleaning old rock

I'm upgrading to a bigger tank size, and was wondering what the best way is to clean the old rock that I no longer will want/need? These rocks are covered in green palys that i want to get rid of also.. so I want to take some precautions. Any suggestions?

Bleach will kill everything on the rock. Just make sure to soak again in plain RO/DI afterwards till the bleach is gone.

If you "no longer will want/need" why would you do anything to it?

But yes.. Tossing it in a bleach/water bucket will take care of it..

I would just toss it in the backyard. I have a corner between my raised beds that has a couple hundred pounds. As for the palys - let the sun bake them to death and then powerwash them (wear eye protection)

Why get rid of cured rock. Remove palys by placing the rock out in the sun for a couple of weeks hose them down with water then rinse and repeat until you're satisfied.

Once you do this it will no longer be cured rock.

Bleach bath is quick and easy. Dont skimp on the rinse/repeat step. Dechlorinator can help ensure all traces of bleach are gone.

If you don't want the rock at all could you sell it to another fish guy local? Someone may want the nasty...

but I'd keep the rock. As suggested bleach will kill 'em. If the weather cooperates I'd do it outside. Dead rock is easy to store for next time. basement, crawlspace, under the stairs, sisters room, all good places.
