Cleaning older tank

This might not be the right forum but I'm having issues getting an older tank clean. I've tried vinegar and a razor to get glass clean no avail. I was thinking about trying muratic(sp?) acid. Anyone have succes with using this?

Acid doesn't seem to be working. Is it possible the glass has been damaged from not cleaning it?

What does it look like? Many folks find diluted muriatic acid works well to remove and calcium carbonate deposits.

It looks like large water spots. I left the acid on for a couple minutes, then scrubbed it some, and this stuff still won't come off.

How long did you let it sit in vinager?

I usually fill my tank up with water, COMPLETELY OVERFLOWING OVER THE RIM, then add a 1l of vinager, add a mj or koralia, and I let it sit MIN 48 hours moving.

Everything comes off with fingers only, no even need for a razer.

Let it soak in pure vinegar for 2-3 days.

Muriatic acid might work, but it requires careful handling. I'd work outdoors with gloves and goggles, and add 10 parts water to the tank, then 1 part acid. Never add water to acid; it can boil and spray acid around. The glass might be etched, which can be largely impossible to fix.

If they are just water spots can you even see them when the tank is full?
