cleaning pwheads

I replaced two old pw that I could use to aeriate new saltwater for water changes. IÃ"šÃ‚´ve read people tend to clean thier powerheads with a water-vinager solution, can this be done on any type of powerhead? How long should I have the pw working in this solution before I can use it to move clean water.

It can be done with any powerhead. The vinegar is used to remove coraline algae, where bleach is used to remove algae. I would put in a cup (don't mix them) to a gallon of water and let run for 30 minutes, then run in a few gallons of plain water to rinse.

thanks for the reply, I think I got you, first run the pw in a vinager-water solution or bleach-water and then plain water.

Thanks a lot.
