Cleaning sponge toxic?

I read it is recommend to keep a sponge in the sump at all times in the event a quarantine tank has to be installed with a sponge filter.

I bought a sponge that is generally used for household cleaning, but I am afraid it leeches toxins to the tank. The only thing it says is that it is a "cellulose sponge" which is made of material made of plants.

Has somebody used general household sponges before? Do they impact the water parameters? Do they need to be cured before putting them in the tank?

I wouldn't use that sponge some cleaning sponges are infused with cleaners/chemicals to prevent mildew and scum buildup in the sponge. I'm pretty sure you read about a filter sponge which should be available at your LFS.
