Cleveland's Tap water

hmmm... lake erie is the source! i would not trust it and it would have seasonal swings... but for fish only you might be alright but it would encourage algae growth

I wouldnt do it purchasing a ro unit at least would stronly recomend rodi Just for a good clean start I am on a municipal water source that ranges anywhere from 240 to 300 tds out of the tap you dont want that in you r tank .....I dont even use it for my daughters fresh water angel tank

i get 170 out of my tap i tried tap water once i scraped the green algae for 3 days after that. get an ro/di

Cleveland's Tap water isn't that bad, compared to most other cities in the US.

You would be better served though if you spent some money on a good RO machine.

Well worth it in the end run.

The risk of bad water in your tank, that can help create an algae bloom - red or green- is far outweighed by the reward of a tank less susceptible to these algae outbreaks from using a good RO or RO/DI machine.

They also pay for themselves very quickly.

I bought my first RO\DI(SpectraPure) system several months back.
It has a TDS meter on it, hooked up the system and I got a reading of 5ppm before going to the DI chamber and 0 coming out. I bought a hand held TDS meter last month and my first reading from the tap was 140ppm. Not Bad!

I live in Westlake and the TDS here is around 142, alot lower than i thought it would be. Man i love my new RO/DI
