Clibanarius Digueti - Coralline eater

I've read that the hermit crab Clibanarius Digueti has a big appetite for Coralline algae. There is another Clibanarius that eats it as well but Digueti is the most common one sold. I've seen pictures of tanks that had Digueti and the rocks are literally bare.

Does anybody have any idea what this other one is?

I have about 1/3 live rock and 2/3 base rock which I'm trying to seed and I need to make sure I don't buy anything that eats Coralline.

I don't beleive these will eat any coralline. These hermits will feed on detritus, green algae, shed exoskeletons, and dead organic matter. They are also happy to eat any food the keeper chooses to add to their tank, live or frozen, flake or pellet. They are claimed to consume cyanobacteria and hair algae, though this may not be true.

But I have heard that if ther is no other food soure but the coralline they will eat it, mainly the softer coralline. I have the red legged hermit in my 125, but the key is to not have to many. To answer your question though I don't know what the common name for the other hermit crab in question, but I do know that it originates from the Sea of Cortez, same with the red legged hermit but they are not as available as the common red legged.

Regards
