Cliff717 hex Zeroedge

Now that was a great mod. I have stayed away from these tanks for the very reason that you have overcome. Looks like you just sold a ton of Zero edges for the company with that little bit of ingenuity. Have you thought about rebuilding the wall to make it a little less adobe house esc, or are you going to let the corals do this for you?

Dang you just got my mind wandering with this kind of mod you could also make an island that breaches the surface with a small waterfall into the tank using only the pin hole to feed the fall. O no, wifes going to kill me, going to order a tank.

Ha yeah. The check valve scared me too.
As for the design of the cover. Yeah it looks prety square but I have already planted it with gsp and zoas. So hopefully soon they will totally cover it

I like the waterfall idea:)

The waterfall would create ripples and distort your top down view which is one of my favorite features of a zero edge tank.

What if the waterfall was into the center of the island as seen in some of the old ring island formations in the south pacific? I will look for a pix of the islands I am talking about. Then the ripples would only be in the island bay I could plant some mangroves coming up through this same ring kind of making a hidden cove. What do you think of soothing like that?

Why did you post this tank!? Grrrrrrrr.

Yeah that would look cool. You would have to put a drain at the bottom of the cove so that it would drain back to the tank under water line so it would not ripple

I am finding it tricky to fit everything in there. Now that they are all expanding; It's realy stuffed. It's tricky cause there is not allott of options on placement. I am used to having a six foot tank so I can pick placement for light and flow; but not here; I am forced to put a coral wherever it fits lol

So one wore defect with these tanks are the loud drains. They are aweful they rely on a black foam around the drain hole to quiet the water. This again is a recipe for disaster. When the foam clogs the drain uverflows :( So in order to fix this I made it into a Herbi drain. But this required a third drain as a oh crap drain. So I mustered up the courage to get out the holesaw and drill a overflow in the tray at the back of the tank. This third drain is a backup and because of it I was able to restrict one of he original drains to match the pumps output. It works great and is now totally silent; pics are on my computer. I will try to post pics of it tomorow

What a beautiful tank! I would still love to see your drain mod if you are willing to post those pics you mentioned? Any other insight into ZeroEdge tanks since your last posts?

Ok so for the last year I have had very little time to do anything to the tank. I have just this week started cleaning up the tank. As for my experience with the zeroedge I love the tank! Before I got the tank I heard people tell stories about too high maintenance and too much water evaporation. I have not found this to b the case at all. I now use a magic eraser to clean the glass and it takes no time at all. Evaporation does not seem to be a issue although I m running a ato so I m not sure of amounts exactly. Only draw back to this tank I see is keeping the fish inside the tank. here r some pics (sorry they r crappy iphone pics)

Wow man! Awesome tank. I have always been a fan of the zeroedge tanks. I really enjoy reading about how you have overcome some of the challenges/design issues of the tank! Keep it up. Lots of winning here.
