Clkwrk's 180gBB SPS/LPS tank setup and progression log

Well, what's left to say? Looks great save a little light rearranging!

While I'm not a fan of BB tanks, I have to admit, I'm a little jealous of your move from one tank to another and not having to go through the sandstorm all over again! That part is very appealing! Your fishies look like they've been there all along - where mine had that "What the ..." look about them for a week! LOL

Was your decision to go with two skimmers based on using the equipment you had - or some other reason?

If all goes well, the hood goes on my tank tonight, and all I'll have left to do is make the doors.

Again, great job. You always give me something to shoot for!

Chris

Hey Chris I have loved the idea of not having to deal with the sand or the mess that comes with it.........Also my 90 is BB which also helped tons because I had to move it to a temp spot until put the 180 up Now that its up I have to move the 120 out of the house and move the 90 into the 120's old spot .........With sand the 90 would be a mess being moved 2 times in 2 weeks............

Thanks again for the kind comments........Now if I can get my trates down I will be doing good.

Will you still speak to us when you own a Deltec? ;)

Actually I'm considering one for our big tank, and probably will. I do think the postings in the Deltec room are hilarious at times. Deltec brotherhood?

And now back to more profitable things..like..your kewl tank. :D

Ever a keen observer, I didn't even realize it was BB. Being the novice I was asking myself, "Self..where's the storm?" Mystery solved.. Ahhh.. it must have been late..or early.

Very cool! And I love the fact that it looks like it's been set up for years! Considering how great it looked in the 120 it couldn't look bad at all in the 180- instant tank! You got some great wave action too!

Funny Zoereef yes I will still talk to all no Deltec owners ;)

Thanks Scott I was hoping that it would look as good if not better. I know they are all the corals but its a matter of placement and the rockwork . You can have awsome corals but if your not placing them right for visual appeal or have a mess for aquascaping it takes away from the tank as a whole .

I am just glad I got it where I want it in 1 try ....I can say doing my share of tank swaps, moves, ect has really helped in the long run .

Thanks again

Hey Scott can you tell me the batch # for your TMPR salt? Also do you still notice the orp drop and hard to raise again deal?

I added 60 new gallon areated for 24 hrs and it dropped my tank down to 170orp

Yup- I still got a drop. Just did a water change this last Sunday and it dropped from 325 (never fully recovered from 3 weeks ago) down to 250. As of this morning it's back up to 310- which seems to be rising faster than the last WC. I can get you the batch # this afternoon. This last WC it was areated for about 30 hours. What are you thinking?

RFS3669 with a date of 2/14/06. I think that is the batch #anyway. If it's a different # let me know and of course let me know if you find anything out.

Where did you get those numbers from? Mine has them under the lid but no date 13515 is mine.

Very nice, what setting are you using on your 7095?

Clkwrk, I see from your sig that you are currently dosing vodka, could you please elaberate on this? How much are you dosing, how long? What results have you noticed so far? Do you plan to continue once nitrate drops?

I had a bad experiance with this, but as I said in my Vodka thread, I don't think that what happened in my tank had anything to do with the Vodka, but rather my general stupidity in other areas.

On an unrelated topic, do you blast your LR off regularly? Do you get a bunch of deatris off when you do? Do you alow any deatris to collect on your starboard, or with your flow is that even possible?

Thanks,
Whiskey

Thats funny ! I just changed my sig like 10mins ago lol.

Yes I started dosing vodka last night. I was told to add around a mil . But I added .5 mil............Within 30 mins the orp had drop 5 points and corals had a bit more PE.........Right now I will continue as long as I don't see any negatives. Also call me crazy but coral pigment looked a bit more vivid also . I just added 1 mil so in the next hr I will beable to tell whats going on .

I do try to blast my rocks as I can ......I still need to get into a routine for this tank and only can the bext few weeks help me figure out that routine.

I still have a spot now that builds some detritus but its in a perfect spot to siphon so I am happy so far.

Although I am thinking of selling the 6200 and getting 2 more 6100's as the 6200's are frigging beasts and they can produce a 1 inch wave no problems and carry it across the whole tank.

BTW my trates did drop from yesterday :D Also I have been testin gthe tank everyday and trates haven't dropped once until now.

Be careful you can add too much. I tryed using granual sugar and the first couple days my skimmer went crazy. I was getting a god cup full of dark skimate everyday and the water looked much clearer. Also the monti cap that was bleaching began to color back up. I was thrilled until the water started to cloud and a nasty film built up on the surface of the water. I stopped adding the sugar and it has slowly returned to normal. Now sugar isn't vodka but the principle is the same.
