Closed loop filter?

Is there a type of filter you can drill the tank and have water go through a filter then back through a drilled hole without a sump?

Ha didn't even think of that. Thanks. I want to lower my waterfall sound of hob filter and reduce salt spray. Don't know if I go to a canister though.

There were a few manufacturers of modular filters (Lifegard, ocean clear, nu clear) that were a step up from a cannister filter in that you could use larger external pumps and the plumbing was a bit more robust. Not sure if they're still around or not (nu clear is I think). Closed loop mechanicals clog quickly though.

I'm considering just dropping the hob and adding a reefoctopus or something similar.
