Closed loop insight

I have a well-established 90 gallon reef now (mostly sps), but I'm considering an upgrade to a 120 (48x24). I know it's not a huge difference, but I have some issues i'd like to resolve. Mainly, I have about 1200 gph or so going through my sump. I'd like to get some insight on drilling my new tank for a closed loop so I can focus most of my turn over in my tank instead of through my sump. Here's some pics of my current filtration and tank. I'm having no real problems, I'm just looking to improve, ya know. Please let me know where I should drill my new tank, where I should position the pump, what kind of pump, etc. All of this info would be greatly appreciated.

Here's the tank a couple of months ago.

For a closed loop, you want to drill your tank about half way down to prevent sucking air or sand. For the return to the tank, you can drill anywhere or not drill at all and go over the top. What kind of flow are you trying to achieve? Will you be using an OM4way or something similar?

I'm using two of those combinations on my 390. Make sure you drill for a 2 inch schedule 80 bulkhead to supply the pump.
And BTW, that's a good looking tank!!!

Are you set on a closed loop? I personally favor internal power heads like Tunze's that give you greater flexibility over a closed loop.

Not to sound like an infommercial but the new Nano Streams are very small and the controllable models, that are due to come out soon will kick out 1500 gallons per hour. I am only throwing this out there because I find CL's to take up to much space and open you up to a greater chance of leaks. I also like to current effects that some of the internal pumps provide.

Yeah, I really didn't want to have to deal with eyesores. I know they CAN be hidden, but why bother. I feel a closed loop leaves no more possibility for a leak than plumbing your sump, what's the difference? I just feel like I'm running too much turnover through my sump now (maybe 1000-1200 gph or so).

wow such an extremely nice tank i love it oh man it is so cool i wish i could have a tank like that...... lol
