Closed Loop Problem

I have a mag 24 on a closed loop system.I am getting lots of noise from the pump.I had the same problme with a brand new mag 18 so I went and got a bigger pump cause I wasnt happy with the water flow.I am using 1 in pvc with two ball valves on each side.I noticed when I reduce the flow the noise get alot quieter.I also looked at my intake I drilled some more holes in it to see if maybe there wasnt enough flow.Well I guess I went to high on the pipe cause I am getting a whirlpool and bubble effect.I am still getting noise.Anything I can do.I mean is the pump too large do I need a certain amount of holes drilled spaced apart etc.I going nuts here ready to toss it in the woods lol.

1" pipe is WAY too small for either one of those pumps. WIth teh ball valves, you're probably choking it down to 3/4" ish.. even wide open.

Can you describe the noise? It might be the pump cavitating, frequently caused by the pump not getting enough inflow for the ammount of water it is trying to outflow. Try increasing the inflow pipe size, allowing more inflow and also more surface area for holes.

No the pipe is way open. The noise gets quiet when I turn it down 3/4.How long should the intake pipe be and how many holes should be in it.I think i put too many now cause I am getting the whirlpool effect.I noticed since I put more holes I am getting air bubbles.I
didnt have any before but more noise.

The whirlpool effect to me seems like you dont have enough holes and its trying to suck too much thru the holes you have. More holes would should mean more intake and stop the whirlpooling. That is probably where the bubbles are comming from also, when you get the whirlpool your pump is sucking in air as well as water.

I do agree the pipe should be larger than 1 inch though, seems to small.

Your suction side is way too restricted. What you are experiencing is cavitation from starving the pump. You need 2" pipe wide open with no valves or restrictions. If anything put a 2" suction strainer on it but as few fittings and restrictions as possible. Put a valve on the outlet side and if need be restrict it there but never on the suction side.
