In my ongoing 125 setup I think I want to try and make the below as my Only source of waterflow would like to leave out powerheads if possilbe I have a shelf behind the tank and the pump would set even with the bottom of the tank trim if not up just a little higher so i need a pump thats gonna be A. Quite B.Not too bad expensive C.can move ALOT of water :)

JOhn. thats pretty slick! I like that idea and may steal it from you. I have a Gen x PCX 20 pump that I used for my loop. while not the quietest on teh market, it performed very well on my tank. and gave me several years of trouble free service. the noise made by the pump is from the air fan on the back that keeps them cool. I have heard of folks removing htis fan and replacing it with a computer fan. I was going to do this but never got around to it. that may be one solution to it for you. I am not using mine and not really sure if I will with the new tank. Im getting a 240 gallon and it just isnt quite big enough. its rated at 1000gph. $50 and you can have it.

Congrats on The New Tank! I had to think real hard on getting that 240 when wayne posted it Heck of a deal! I cant take credit for the closed loop design I found it here On RC a guy built it said it was great! I might take you up on the pump tho not sure yet as I have a 6 inch back shelf on my stand and it wouldnt be inside the stand as it would be outside and right behind the tank and in the living room so Im gonna need something really quite to run this unless I just break down and run it into the stand

I had mine behind the stand on the ground. if you are running a loop, the head loss will be negligible due to the down out of the tank. I never noticed mine having any drop in flow. but you could tell a hellova difference when the pump was off. I got the model wrong. it is a 40 rated at 1250 gph.

Looks like the design I first saw Calfo describe years ago here on RC. The downside to the design is you have to have a huge pump to get any meaningfull flow out of all the outlets. You probably want 300 to 400 gph out of each outlet so that equates to a pump that produces well over 3000gph. The Sequence pumps are the only ones that come to mind that would work well IMO.

also, you may want to add some of the locline flow adjusters ... you will get a ton of flow out of the first outlets, but it will decline as it goes around if you dont use them. im glad i got them when i was running my dart on a 36" tanks closed loop.

Thats kinda what the orginal person was speaking of as he said
I capped off 4 ports and it flows "ok" through the 8 ports with locline. Ill probably end up capping off another port or two to get a little more velocity. The flow at all outlets is pretty even and it looks like its going to work pretty good!
