I have a 55 gallon with a 20 gallon sump. I want to run a closed-loop system. What I am wanting to know is where to drill holes on the back of my tank and how many holes. I don't want anything hanging over my tank if at all possible such as returns. I want the returns to be drilled in the tank coming from a scwd wave maker. If anyone has suggestions or pictures I would really appriciate it!

You will need one hole for the drain or the inlet for the pump on the closed loop to draw water from the tank into the pump.
Where you place the he for it is up to you, I woul dsuggest lower in the tank maybe half way.
As far as retruns go, the same thing applys, it is up to you where you want your returns and as how many.

So it is possible to have returns that don't stick over the edge of the fish tank. Please send pic. of closed loop systems (Anyone)
