Closed loop system question?

Iââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢m considering going closed loop in my new 180g, the thing is I will not have a pre-drilled hole in the tank for my for the closed loop pump. The tank will have two pre-drilled overflows.

I was a little scared about getting the tank drilled as its $600 and if it cracks Iââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢m out that much.

What other options do I have for running PVC for the intake?

I was looking at the sequence dart 3600gph pump.

It should be possible to run an internal closed loop system with a submersible pump. Set-up just like an external closed loop but with all the pipe/pumps inside the tank.

Drilling a tank isn't as risky as it sounds. I drilled two holes in mine with a dremmel tool and a tile cutting bit. It took a while but worked great and I never even got the impression that the glass was close to breaking. There were hardly any vibrations and after a few minutes I was just cutting away!!! It is also a good idea to get a few pieces of scrap glass from Lowes or HD and test yourself on them.

I was wondering about that very idea. Wouldn't that increase the temp in the tank too much?

I am in the same boat, I want an option to run the OM with out having to stick PVC in my tank, If I can drill holes then I will do that or would like to pull from my sump.

So would I be ok running PVC for the intake with the pump sitting in the canopy and then running more PVC back up to the tank for the outputs.

have you checked this out...its pretty cool idea...however the sqwd wouldnt work on your application...im thinking of doing the same thing as you with a poisidon ps4 pump, because i dont want to drill but want to add a closed loop. i think i would make my intake a little different, its that tube with all the holes on the right, i would go a little smaller and shorter but its a great idea and principle

I made an over the top like on melevs web site. I used 2 inch black pvc and it was soon covered in coraline and was not that noticable. I then hooked it up to an om 4-way and am quite happy with the results. Excellant way to get the flow you need without overdriving your sump.
