i am in the process of a 75 reef and i see alot of people refer to a closed loop. i must say i dont quite understand what this is,what it does, and what its advantage is. if anyone can explain this to me it would be great!! and also remeber pictures are worth a thousand words haha

thanks

I don't have a picture but will be setting up a closed loop soon. A closed loop is just a system where you pump water out of your tank and then back into it with no processes (skimmer, fuge, carbon) in between. So all your doing is adding more flow to the tank. Another cool option with a closed loop system is to have a SCWD. This guy changes the flow between two outlets constantly to add a wave like flow without complicated electronics. Do a search on google and you will probably come up with some cool links. Sorry I can't help you more

so it is just to get flow without the pump being in the actual aquarium???

yeah,, that's about it.. :)

powerheads get bulky and ugly so a closed loop keeps it cleanl looking. And that pretty much sums it up. Cheers
