Cloudy eye. Purple Tang. Any help?

Hi all

Came home from work and found my purple tang with a bad eye. It is milky and looks like it has been torn lose/out of its socket. I wonder if my yellow tang has caused it or if there might be another reason for this? Sickness maybe? I am leaning more towards the yellow tang causing it because the purple tang has been active and looking great in my tank for well over 4 months now. No new fish have been added since itself and my tank has been stable and in good shape for a long time now.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Also, anyone know if this is something it can recover from? I mean in case of it being a fight related issue. Thanks!

Dosen't Look good. Cloudy eyes are a bad sign. I had a clarkie clown that had cloudy eyes. She died the next day. Its not from fighting.

Urbansage, Tangdiver was talking about this on another thread. Basically someone had a clown ,I believe, and it was suffering from cloudy eye. The general consensus was that it would go away, however, he said to use medicated foods. I don't know much about this but I have been researching it and the best I can say is that most fishes will survive, some will die, and some will go blind, good luck and keep us posted!
 
I just went through a cloudy, swollen eye issue with an Asfur angel. It started with one eye (looked exactly like your purple), then spread, to a lesser degree to the other eye.

I pulled him from the display and placed him in a hospital tank with Maracyn. After just one day, he was 90 percent better. After three days of treatment he's 100 percent back to normal.

Even though the packaging says it's safe for your biological filter, I think it best to treat in a hospital tank (I used a 10 gallon barebottom tank with a few small live rock pieces). The dose is one tablet for every 10 gallons once a day. I did a 60 percent water change every other day.

I've always been one to belive that aquarium medications were merely expensive "snake oils". But, Maracyn made a believer out of me!!

sdreefers: I have talked to Grant already.

eskymick: I would preffer not having to get it out of my display. Too much rock and the tang is too fast. I will monitor for a few days and then remove the fish if the need is still there.
 
You can pulverize the the maracyn tablet into dust and mix it in with his "wet" foods. It's not as effective as the hospital tank, but at least he's getting some of the helpful meds in his system.
 
my purple had that when i just got it as my sailfin wasnt too happy with the new comer... and chased it a bit... but also one eye was puffed up about 3 days later i assume it was from the chasing... I kept it in the tank and it was still eating but i did do more frequent water changes and it cleared up in about a week. sometimes when they scratch it against rock or something that will happen. good luck
 
They have Maracyn at any LFS. In fact I don't think I've ever been to a pet shop (that sells fish) that didn't have Maracyn.
 
When my fish have had an eye problem like this I always use Epsom salts to treat it.

It was recommended to me by Bob Fenner from WWM and has worked both times I ran into the problem.

(Once from my tang hitting a rock to hard when it got scarred and once for an Angel in quarantine.)

It is also MUCH safer then standard medication.

1 Teaspoon per 10 Gallons. Works like a charm.
 
Yes, in the Display is just fine. Trust me, it works wonders.

Eye is doing great. Tiny hint of cloudyness still but I doubt it will be long before he is good as new.

Continued my use of Selcon. Not sure if it really did anything but im sure its overall better because of it.
