Cloudy rodi water?

Okay so I made about 40 gallons of ro/di water last night. I added salt and buffer to it and all seemed fine. I also added a powerehead and heater to allow it to mix over night. This morning I get up and it looks like milk. What the????? Why did this happen? Is the water okay to use? Will it clear up? Thanks Chris

um...did you do the 10 minute flush like the manual says?....thats the only thing i can think of, but even then, i really dont have a clue....i was on the group order too, so im still new to all this all well....but mine didnt look milky

It was only milky after addind salt and buffer and mixing overnight. I flushed the unit per the dirctions. The water had 0tds and was crystal clear before the salt and buffer.

If you can, check the pH and the Alk. If those are where you want them, then my guess is it would be okay to use. If you have stonies, I'd also check the Calcium level to make sure it isn't too low now that stuff may have precipitated.

Another thing that could be the cause of the cloudiness is if you added the salt too quickly or added too much salt without all the water in there. That can make it more concentrated and precipitate stuff out.

40 gallons would be a lot to waste. Maybe others have had this happen and can say how it worked for them.

yea, if it's milky I would be 100% sure you might have added too much buffer. I had some salt water mixin' one time for a couple days and on the water change day, I added the buffer, within' 30 minutes the water was very cloudy. I didn't even think I added that much either. That has to be it. I ended up dumpin' it cause it was only 5 gal. and I figured my 20 gal. would be cloudy addin' that water.

The pH is a bit high. is this for a WC in the 90 gallon? I might do a small water change -- say 15 gallon and see how it does. Make sure the salinity is good as well. Of course, it may not be worth it to risk things. If it were me, I think I'd go ahead and try it with a small WC and just keep a close eye on things. My bet is that it is no different than having dosed too much buffer into the display, and that adding it through some smaller water changes would be fine. Just don't spike your tank pH or other system params like the salinity.
