Cloudy water,Don't know why...

Cove Beach

Two days ago i did a partial water change. Temp, PH,and salinity were matched. The tank at the time was clear and had been for quite some time. Other than stirring up a little detritus from the rocks all was normal. By the next day when i returned home from work the tank was very cloudy. All corals and fish showed no signs of stress. All pumps and skimmer were normal. At that point i replaced the carbon, but still no improvement. I checked all levels in the tank and all were at normal levels. I'm using Tropic Marin salt that had been mixing for 3or 4 days with heat. TDS in my RODI is at zero. I cleaned the skimmer cup and neck this afternoon and set it to skim wet. It is pulling skimmate with a brownish tinge to it which is similar to the coating that is forming on my Tunze nano streams. Anybody got any ideas or suggestions??I can't figure out what is causing this.....

When you stirred up some detritus you likely put more organic nutrients in the water column which may have triggered a small algae or bacterial bloom. I would run some carbon to pull more organics out of the water and see if this helps.

Thanks, i put in a new batch of carbon yesterday and turned the skimmer to wet. I may go clean the cup out again as it is coated with a light brown slime. Thanks Mark

Well i fixed the problem by re loading my GFO reactor and adding a filter sock to the drains and cranking the skimmer to very wet. The tank is nearly back to normal within 2 hours!!!!! Big sigh of relief!
