does anyone know how to cure cloudy water? i have an UV sterlizer in a 34 gallon red sea and there is only 3 hermits in there and it has macroalgae in there.it is very smelly and cloudy. it was like this for 1-2 weeks now. any info will be gladdly accepted.

I agree sounds like a cycle, but I would check the Nh or ammonia level in the tank. If it is a new tank and the ammonia levels are high ;"I would try a small water change and add some more live rock to the system" to compensate for the nitrifiying bacteria levels. If it is not a new system are you using carbon or a skimmer? A skimmer is a deff best bet for the dissolved organics you might be smelling plus if you are keeping a mantis you are more prone to higher nitrate levels bc of the silversides ,krill, live foods etc. I keep diff macroalgaes in my mantis systems for nutrient export also. I would also use a High grade of carbon in the system this will aid in clarity and any oxidant that might find it's way into the tank. Hope that helps.

Do you have a quality protein skimmer running on that? large water change and carbon is probably your best bet.

Good luck.

i did a large water change like a 50 then bee doing 10-20 every other day. i have a protein skimmer and carbon running. the macro does bleed out, but none died only a little but i took it out. now it firmly held in place because i attachd to the sand. it cleared up very little but it is still murky.
