Clown Aggressiveness Scale

Is there a scale that charts the aggressiveness of the various clown fish species?

I've read that the Maroons (Premnas biaculeatus) are the most aggressive but wonder how much more than say a Tomato Clown (Amphiprion frenatus).

their all pretty [profanity] mean maroons are the worst imo then clarkies, fire clwns, tomato, then percula and all the other percula looking ones, saddel backs, and percula could flip flop depending

I've found a great deal on a GBTA and a pair of Tomato Clowns and am just making sure they aren't going to terrorize the Mandarin, Blue Spotted Watchman Goby, and Royal Gramma that are already in the tank.

A Foxface Rabbitfish, Yellow Eye Kole Tang, and Whitecheek Tang or Powder Brown Tang will be added at a later date.

I would rank them:

Clarkii and all of the Clarkii look-a-likes
Maroon
Tomatos and tomato look-a-likes
Black Ocellaris
Orange Ocellaris
Percula
Saddle's
The Skunks

The Clowns in question share a 75G cube with a pair of Striped Damsels, a Kole tang and a Strawberry Purple Pseudochromis, they all live in harmony, and the clowns spawn regularly.

You guys are lucky you have not encountered rubies (A. rubrocinctus), these guys are the worst. They bite hands in tanks, and dart at your mask when diving.
I hate these guys.

My GSM pair draw blood every time my hands are in the tank. Go around with little scabs on my knuckles and backs of my hands for several days after every tank cleaning.

I'd be a little worried that the mandarin might blunder into the GBTA - they're (mandarins) kind of ackward that way.

The clowns shouldn't bother any of the fish on the list.

you know the funny thing is i have some full black clarkii's and they are super friendly not aggressive at all i put my hands in the tank alot.... dont bother any other fish.... i found my false percula's alot meaner then my clarkii's go figure

We're worried but hoping that the clowns will keep it away from the anemone. Currently, he tends to stay away from where we put the anemone. So if it stays there, we should be okay. If it moves, and moves into he's favourite region, then we might get more worried.

This is only going to apply to clowns that I have actually owned, and sure my examples will be different then others.

Mean to me

Cinnamon --- meanest fish I have ever had. Would bite -- blood, headbutt, and do anything that it could to tick me off.

GSM pair --- similar to the Cinnamon, just not as violent

B&W Os pair --- both would drew blood, but due to their size it wasn't as bad.

Pink skunks pair --- never attacked me directly, but anytime I am near the tank they will "bark" at me.

Clarkii pair --- pretty mellow, though as I am talking my hand out of the tank they will chase after it --- and not even come close. I guess it makes them feel like they chased me out.

SI True perc pair --- Could care less about me, though do seem to think that anytime I am near, or in the tank they are going to get feed.

To other fish/corals

GSM pair --- can't say, were in a tank by themselves.

Clarkii pair --- New additions are attacked. Established fish are pushed away from their anemone. And will attack any fish that goes after a different anemone on the other side of the tank (( that anemone normally doesn't host anything )). Will remove any coral (( or attempt to if large )) that is placed within a foot of their anemone.

Cinnamon -- similar to above, but since it was a single clown it wasn't as bad.

Pink skunk pair --- A while back I added a smaller Potter's angel to pair up with my existing one. They attacked it a lot more then the existing Potter's. Have yet to re-arrange corals.

B&W Os --- didn't seem to care about other fish & corals. In fact, once in a blue moon my Flameback angel would go into their LTA, they didn't care.

SI True percs --- very mellow. My tailspot blenny's "home" is near their LTA, they could care less. (( or is it, couldn't ))

My ocellaris were scared of me until they found my elegance coral. Now they'll chase my hand from two feet away and bite at my gloves. I can't say how aggressive it is, since they eventually only rip holes in the gloves (disposable ones), but they attempt to intimidate at first and then attack if I don't back down.

Clarkii pair- Meanest fish I ever had. They would draw blood when they bit, any new frag added to the tank was launched across the tank by one (or both) of them. Their aggression quadrupled when I gave them a nem. The whole tank became theirs.

Tomato- Pretty mean, tried to bite frequently never really hurt too much though.

Maroon-About the same as the Tomato

Occy pair- occasionally aggressive towards other tankmates, but never made a run at me

Pink Skunk pair- By far the least aggressive, always hide when I approach the tank or put my hand in the tank. Although, they did sort of get angry with me when I got near their Anemone tonight. Todd I am still waiting for mine to bark at me, I am sure once they are truly paired up and comfortable they will.

My Cinnamons are meaner than all get out. put your hand in the tank and it's instant attack mode. In fact come to close to the glass and it's charging into the glass time. On the other hand as long as other fish stay away from their "territory" then it's all good.
