Clown and Haddoni Victory

AquaReeferMan

Got Reef?
Well on my long journey of trying to find clowns for my carpet finally came to an end. Between the carpet eating 3 Occs and losing 2 Black Amphiprion polymnus(saddleback) due to there health from a bad wholesaler I finally came along a pair of Wild Brown Amphiprion polymnus(saddleback). After being in the tank for less than 10 minutes they were eating swimming around and breathing normal. After a couple of quick laps around the tank they found there house. It is a 16" Haddoni. Ive had the carpet for around a year now. Its odd because they dive right into the mouth. Heres some pictures to share with everyone. First two were taken during the day, last one is at night with flash.

Well first I had 2 Orange and they got curious and ending up getting stuck and pulled in. I was able to pull 1 out and save him. I then added 2 Blacks and within 2 months both were gone. It sucks watching them get housed and not being able to do anything. My largest occs(2yrs old,the one I saved) which I moved into a different tank has used a LTA but the Carpet was to much for him. The only fish that were able to use it are wild caught.

hmmm...well goood luck with these two, it looks freakin awesome

what kind of lighting do you have and what do you feed the carpet?

I have 2x150w 14k hqi and 2x130w Actinics. I usually feed once a week but he gets a steak dinner(my fish) every now and again.

Hey no problem I have nothing else to do than sit here on RC(my lights are off so Im not infront of the tanks) I feed it around 3-4 peices of krill weekly.

Hey congrats! I recently got a blue S. Haddoni hosting a pair of mated black polymnus clowns from a fellow reefer. I've had them a couple weeks now and they are doing great. I feed the carpet about 1/3 of a whole piece of raw shrimp per day. Haven't lost a fish to it yet, but I know as it grows it will be likely.

Here are some pics of them in my 270:

Those clowns appear to be A. polymnus x A.sebae hybrids that Proaquatix sells. I've got a pair in a Haddon's carpet. They call 'em white tip clowns.

wow.. beautiful tank gisho.. is that real lr setup or the premade one? either way the tank looks great..

Thanks for the kind words otter. That is all "real" lr. Just had to look real hard and long for huge pieces that worked together for the look I was trying to accomplish.

Take care.

Really? Hmm, interesting. They do have a shade of orange on their mouth area, if that helps id them any further. I would like to know what they are exactly. Thanks for the tip just dave. I'll have to investigate. Does Poraquatix have a web-site with photo's of this hybrid?
Thanks.

My black clown had the orange when she was a juvi, but has gradually outgrown it. I think it is a young black clown thing.

Yes, but the female has the orange shading on the mouth area also and she's by no means a juvi anymore. Also, when you refer to a "black clown" are you referring to a polymnus/"saddleback" clown? I am really no good with this whole clownfish identification thing...I am always confused. I would like to know what they actually are though.

Sam, where did you get them from and are you sure they are actually polymnus's? No worries if they aren't, I'd just like to know for my own knowledge. It would be cool to have some strange/uncommon type of hybrid.

Thanks nosferatu51.

Haddoni's get big, and fast.

I would say you could certainly do one in a 40, but you won't be able to keep much else in there except the clowns that it will host.

Most other fish would either get eaten in short order and it would sting corals I imagine.

Only IMO and based off of what I have read/heard though as this is my first carpet.

I had the same type clowns but they were not healthy. They are 2 Black Amphiprion polymnus. I went through a long identifiaction proccess on these clowns and came to the conclusion that they were Black Amphiprion polymnus. Here is a site that has them.

Mine looked the same. Here is a pic

Yup, those are the same as mine. Checked the website link you attached and yes, the picture of the one on the website looks identical to mine. I must have the black a. polymnus then.
Thanks for the info!

Hey Gisho. They were bought as wild caught A. Polymnus clowns. To say they are Polymnus X Sebae would be pretty cool/crazy since its rare to get to breed 2 A. Polymnus in the first place.

You can find wild A.Polymnus with all 3 white bars in (Indonesia/Sulawesi).

So unless they can prove documentation of Polymnus X Sebae, offspring because that website claims there are no hybrids as such in the wild with the 3 developed bar?

The info on the website can be misleading, as can be anyone from all the nicknames we give these clowns.

Sam
