Clown and Niger Trigger?

From experience, do they have any chance of getting along? The Niger I have is already about 6" and the Clown would be about 3-4". The current tank is 72"x20"x19" but I can switch to the 240G in my storage as soon as needed. Im not worried about water quality, I have that covered but just aggression.

I most likely will not even bother trying it but thought I would ask anyways. I'm more of a "puffer guy" and don't know nearly as much about triggers! But I have heard and seen how hard it can be to mix them.

What would you Trigger experts recommend for another trigger with a Niger if any? My guess would be something like a Blue Throat?

It will work with the clown or blue jaw. The niger will get more attitude around the 8" mark. The clown is a hit or miss on attitude. It won't last once the fish get really big in that 240. But I haven't heard of anyone actually growing a 20" clown trigger from 3" in a 130 or a 240 so it may not get there anyways.

A clown is much more likely to cause problems than a niger.
I wouldn't do it in a tank that size.

Wow, so I would need bigger than a 240G for a clown? How are very many people keeping these guys??? I guess they do get pretty big...

What other trigger would you recommend or would you say just the niger would be best?

I would suggest a huma huma or similar trigger. Nigers can get aggressive when they get older, not to mention huge, theyd probably out grow your 240 honestly. Clown triggers just snap when older usually. I plan on getting a clown trigger for my FO. I am setting up the 300g pond and right now it will be with a 6" passer angel and a 32" brazilian dragon moray. I also have plans to get a sohal tang and maybe a miniatus grouper/lunare wrasse. Good luck with whatever you decide to go with, and get that 240 up!

It will be fine.....

Triggers grow extremely slow just save up for a upgrade in about 3 years or so.

I really don't think a Niger will outgrow a 240 but maybe Im wrong. Fishbase lists them at a max of 19" and from what I have read, its more likely for them to stay around 16". The tank is 8'x2'x2'. I don't see the problem but like I said, I could be wrong.

I have everything for the 240 but no interest in setting it up until I need to. All my fish have a ways to go until they would need the extra space. I hope to move in a year or so and don't want to have to move a 240G. For now its down in storage.

I have both of them in my tank and they get along fine.

Yeah but its a 380G right? Although from your measurements, it looks like the only real difference between your 380 and my 240 is a little width (2") but mostly height (1').

People stop posting about their clown triggers after they either outgrow the tank or start wiping it out.

As for better triggers, I definitely like the sargassum or crosshatch more. They're much less likely to cause problems (though you do have to give them lots of swimming room).

So what size would you need to keep one?

I am not going to buy it anyways but now Im curious.

It depends on what you want to keep it with.
Honestly, at this point, I would only consider a huge tank for one, probably 400-500g at least.

My expiernce, yes. Make sure the tank is not all crowded up and long for it to swim. Dont feed them live food. Everything will be allright. Just from my expiernces
