persoanly i dont think so, i have been designing my own breeder set up ( still in design ) and i at first thoguht of doing that, but what your doing is sharing dirty water from the first pair to the second pair, any screen will collect detritus and foul the water more
and there is probably lot more reasons that i have not listed just giving you food for thought
