Clown broodstock tanks

Total water volume is MUCH more important than tank size. It will also vary based on the temperment of the pair. Most maroons pairs would be find in a 10g tank, while many clarkii would feel cramped. But those are just generalizations.
Many of my broodstock tanks are custom acrylic tanks that have a foot print about the size of a typical 55g tank, but are seperated into three tanks.

Could you give me some measurements of your tanks? I find it very hard to visulise the US gallons!
I am in the process of setting up a broodstock system and move my clowns to it. Water volume i expect to be around 180-200 gallons. Will be increased again but has to be kept affordable for the skimming and filtering.
Its just were to start on tank size, i dont want top cramp these guys in just to throw babies out for me! Feels a little cruel. Though obviosly space is limited, and this is a breeding project.
My Toms are quite big, but rarly leave there host.
My Saddlebacks (A. polymnus)(black morph) venture quite far from there host.
The Ocellaris use most of there tank, but arnt hosting yet!
And i have a pair of Maroons, but they arnt hosting either. Though they dont swim a great deal, but she is a good 5".
And i do fancy some Clarkiis, Sebae's and Blue stripes (A. chrysopterus).

My custom tanks are about 48"L x 24"W and 20"H which is about the size of a 55g tank.
I had a total water volume of about 800g for the primary broodstock system including all the tanks and sumps.
Some species are better suited to larger areas, the chrys are the most likely to do better in a bigger tank.

Wow 800g.. Thats quite impressive. I have seen pics of parts of your set up i think, but didnt realise that it was quite that big. What do you mean by "had"?

I am not planning on cutting corners here, but got to make sure i dont get carried away with the broodstock fish i get and the water volume i can achieve to keep.

I am transistioning from part time breeder to full time poker player that just happens to keep some pairs of clowns.
I cranked up the breeding operations when the 2001 depression hit the IT industry here in the US. It has never really recovered in my area. Now that I am making nearly as much playing poker as I did before 2001 in IT I am focusing much more on that than anything else.
I am still passionate about clownfish and reefs, but the time to keep a full scale breeding operation going compared to the profit compared to the money I make per hour of poker... It becomes a no brainer for me to consintrate on poker.

No real connection. Poker is something I have played since I was in junior high school. I got serious about it 3 years ago. I started playing online, then found my place in live play. And yes, I am making as much playing poker than I did when I was a senior network engineer back in 2001. Once I get to the point that I can play more than a couple days a week, I should double or tripple that earn rate.
I am in process of moving so I am not really sure exactly how big I will end up going. It will depend a lot on the house I end up buying. I am torn between a large cuge (5'x5'x2.5') or a large in wall that would be something like 8'x2-3'x2.5'. Either way it will qualify as a "large reef". I am keeping my GSM pair, my akin pair and a family of onyx A. percula (5 total).

I have just done my maths for the gallonage. I seem to get a 48"L x 24"W and 20"H tank to come out at 99 gallons(US)!
Which makes sense cause here in the UK a 4x2x2 = 100g(UK)
So that sounds about right.
Have you typed the tank size wrong or the gallons?
Or is it just me!!

Here in the Uk a very standard size 4' tank is 48Lx15Wx18H this works out at 47g (UK) and i work this to be about 56 of your US gallons. So i am assumeing its this sort of size.
No worries just thought i was going mad! I have a size to work from now, thanks alot guys

Just trying to see what tanks i can realistly source for the right money. It does help being pointed in the right direction though!
I have a few 2"cubes to play with, i was thinking of splitting these into 2's for the larger species which works at about 30g's.
Why a different tank size for the B&W and regular O's?
Also a quick question for those who split tanks up. Does it matter that the pairs on each side will be able to see each other? Or do you guys put a cover of somekind between?
