I just signed up at the nfmas site after talking to one of the members at Robs this past week.
I was wondering if anyone locally had tried rearing clown eggs? I'm thinking about giving it a shot. I have an old 1 gal. tank that I used to keep a goldfish in at my office... its been sitting empty in a closet for a while...so here is what I was thinking of doing.... anyone have any input on if this sounds like it might work??
1. Put a piece of tile in my tank over the back wall where they are currently laying eggs..and see if they will even lay them there.
Assuming #1 is successful.... continue with below.
2. Find someplace that sells live rotifers... I think Rob at Robs Reef said there is some place in St. Augustine that has them.
3. I want to get a sterlite container ( I think they are about 10 gallons) ... fill it with saltwater... put a heater in it.
4. Spray paint the 1 gallon container black.... to keep light out...fill it with saltwater from the 65 gallon tank I have w/ the clownfish...and somehow float it in the larger sterlite container. (Not sure how I'm going to acheive this... I need to figure out some way to brace it in there.) I figure by doing this...that the water inside the 1 gallon tank will stay heated..and I won't have to worry about the fry nuking themselves on the heater.
5. Once the fish lay the eggs on the tile... transfer it to the one gallon. ( Not sure how to tell what day they will hatch...I guess I'll have to time it in my big tank a few times before attempting all this..)
6. On the day the eggs are to hatch...start adding rotifers to the tank all day long ... once an hour??? while making sure its dark in the room when I'm doing this.
7. If any live ... transfer to the sterlite container and start on baby brine shrimp after day 8.
