Clown fed cleaner shrimp to bta

This morning I noticed my cleaner shrimp acting lethargic. Then,I noticed the female black saddleback harrasing the shrimp and picking him up.She carried him all the way over to the side of the tank with the rose anemone. When I returned home from work tonight the shrimp was in the anemone's mouth. The clown was pushing the shrimp into the anemone.I know clownfish will sometimes bring food to thier host anemone, but this is a first for me.Now a few hours later the shrimp is completly swallowed.I ecpect it to be expelled because it probably is too big to be consumed by the anemone.Anyone heard of such activity before?

I've never heard of a fish carrying a cleaner shrimp like that. Guess she wanted her home cleaned. LOL I have heard of anemones eating shrimp though.

i feed my anemone krill, and sometimes i feed it raw shrimp that you get from the store (cocktail shrimp?).

what kind of clown do you have? i would bet that the shrimp was getting ready to molt (i have noticed my shrimp acting sick and the next morning its active and a fresh skin floating around). its unfortunate the clown used him as food for the anemone!

anemones will eat anything, though they might spit it back out a few hours later... my anemone will munch on hair algae that lands on it. it will also eat black mollies, but spits them out after 2 hours.

My cleaner hangs out in the anemone...waits for me to feed it and then steals its food...I think that'll change when my anem is filled with my newest pair.

Black Saddleback clowns. The shrimp did molt the day before the episode.I think when I saw him acting weird,he had already been stung by the anemone. Now I'm wondering if this is where my fire shrimp disappeared a couple of months back. The other weird thing is I have a juvinile hippo tang that spends alot of time hanging out with the clown when she is in the anemone. And,the male clown spends the day hosting in a toadstool coral on the opposite end of the tank.

The hippo hosts the anemone???

That requires pictures...lol

No,the tang just hovers right next to the anemone. But,does sometimes brush against the tentecles though.Today the female started to let the male host in the anemone with her. So,maybe this whole thing will be related to them possibly spawning.Keeping my fingers crossed!
