clown fish chasing and biting

i have a pair of clown fish for whatever reason one is chasing and biting the other. they have been peaceful for a couple of months. now both are in the beta box

please help

were they a pair? if not, maybe they r fighting to see who is the dominate one and therefore become a female?

do not think they are a pair . but one of them is really aggressive on the other. no broken fins . do i leave them alone ?

if its similar size, then they will fight until one backs off. how long have u had them? when i get clownfish, i always get one much smaller than the other one.

i normally let them bicker a little as long as the other one has room to move away. sounds like they r maturing and fighting for dominance.

how big is the tank? its always possible if no room for the weaker one to swim away. what kind of clownfish is it?

One might kill the other. It happened to one of my pairs before. They were peaceful for several months and even shared anemones together. Then one day the bigger clown beat up the smaller clown to death. The biggest difference that time was she was grabbing him by his tail with her mouth in a very violent way.

i have both trapped in beta box and do you think best to sell one of them away ?

Yes. In my case I paired up the aggressor with a clown who was slightly larger than the victim clown. They bonded fast without issues.

As long as there isnt constant 24/7 aggressive fighting I would leave them alone. Clownfish will always fight until there there's a dominant winner who will become female. as long as there is not two females in which case one usually ends up dead. I actually have two black ice clowns that are part of the same clutch who are bickering for dominance,both are about 1.5" with one being just a tiny bit bigger who I think is is going to be the female.
