Clown Fish Eggs in Flower Pot in DT

My Clown Fish laid eggs for the second time. I put a flower pot in the DT after not being able to do anything with the first clutch. Luckily enough the Clowns laid the eggs in the pot.

So my question is when should I move the pot with the clutch in it from my DT to the little 10 gallon tank that I have setup for the fry? The eggs were laid last night.

Should I do it immediately?

Should I wait until the day before they hatch?

Or.......................?

Any help is greatly appreciated!!

do it the day before they hatch, this way the parents take care of them for as long as possiable.

you have rotifers goig?

That's what I was thinking. I actually ordered them last night right after I noticed they were cleaning the area.

I know that I should have ordered them earlier but I wasn't sure if they were going to lay eggs again because I put the pot in there and the female wasn't really taking to it.

Here is my tank for the fry

Obviously I'm going to swap out the pots. The one that is in there is in there just encase I decided to move the parents over and try to have them breed in this tank. The PVC is in there to give them a choice but I'm planning on taking that out. And the rock that is in there is coming out. Also the back and sides and painted black.

So with that said, any suggestions with what I should do to the fry tank?

And once I put the pot with the clutch in the fry tank (the day before they hatch), should I hook up the air stone like it is in the picture to help aerate the eggs? Or is that a bad idea?

Thanks Again!!! I really do appreciate the fast response!!! I feel like a nervous parent! HaHA

the sponge filter needs to come out as it will suck up the fry along with the rotifers. add it back after meta.

put the air stone under the heater so that it covers it compleyly, and put electrical tape over the red light.

I would also take half the water out to start with, otherwise you will need to use twice as many rotifers, I start mine off at around 3 gal. and once they are off the rotifers then start to raise the water level to 5-6 gal for the brine shrimp, then after meta go to 10 gal.

also do you have the bottom painted white? it will help you see the mess on the bottom to syphon up.

the way you have the airstone now will work as you want to aierate the eggs.

hopefully you will get enough rotifers going in time as it usually takes 4 days after you get them to get up to speed.

I would also get an ammonia badge as you will be doing water changes daily to keep levels down.

Thanks for the advice!

I ordered live rotifers. Does that make a difference?

I don Not have the bottom painted white. I never heard of that. It makes sense though. I always read that you wanted the tank blacked out so the fry could see the food easier. Since the bottom isn't painted it kind of has a mirror affect which makes it kind of easy to see the mess on the bottom.

it makes a little diffrence as the casts will take even longer, I always order 1 mil live rotifers when I am ready to restart about a week before they lay eggs this way I have plenty of time to get them up to par. you may be ok depending on how many fry you have.

actually the mirror finish I find to be harder to see, try putting a piece of plain paper under the tank when you have tiny poop on the bottom and then take it out, you will be able to see the diffrence. who knows maybe the mirror finish is better for you :D

you do want all the sides blacked out for the 1st 4-5 days, the bottom don't matter though, on my fry tanks I have 3 sides painted black and the front I use black construction paper so it's easy to remove to see inside.

it may sound difficult to start with but once you get the hang of it, it really isn't to bad.

Thanks again!!

I have another question (HaHa), I noticed with the first clutch, it started out with about 50 eggs. Each day there was less and less. And then on the final day there were about 6 eggs. With the second clutch (current), it seems to be following the say pattern. Should I just let nature take it coarse? Or should I take them out now and stick the pot in the fry tank?

sounds to me like either the eggs are going bad and the parents ar taking them off so they don't affect the good ones. or it is because the parents are not getting enough protien and are eating the eggs to get it.

what are you feeding the parents and how many times?

I feed the Rods Reef Complete and Pacific Plankton. Also New Life Spectrum Thera+A pellets. I feed the frozen usually once a day but sometimes twice a day. And the pellets I usually do a little two or three times a day.

when watching the eggs, to you notice any of them becomming white or clear?

it could also be that because they are new they are still trying to figure things out.

Not that I can recall. They usually go from orange, to brown, then you see eyes and then silver with eyes.

I can keep an eye out for them turning white or clear. I guess that's a bad thing if they do that?

Gotcha. What's a normal sized clutch? Ones a Perc and the other is an Osc.

What do you feed yours and how often?

Once again I appreciate all of the help and speedy responses!

the nest I last raised had around 250 eggs, the nest that I have now has around 400 which I will start to raise again.

I feed mine 4 times a day with a mix of NLS pellets, and IO marine chips, and once a day a mix of frozen PEmysis, marine cusine, and emerald entree.

Ok. I was thinking too that I noticed that the male doesn't leave the clutch. Not even to eat. Is that normal? Would he be eating some eggs to supplement for food?

Mine leaves the eggs to eat but he wont go far from the nest, its hard to say why yours dont leave to eat.

I did count my last nest that should hatch on sunday and there is over 600 eggs, much better than their 1st nest which was les than 200 lol

I'm thinking that I'm just going to let this one go. Hopefully the next one will have more and I'll have the Rotifers going by then. Because I'm expecting the eggs to hatch Sunday or Monday and I still haven't received the Rotifers yet.
