Clown fish Fry Question

Two days ago I discovered my clown fish had babies. I gathered all the fry I could (using a flashlight and cup) and transferred them to a 5 gallon with a heater and air stone. I have read live rotifers are the best food source for the fry, but none of the fish stores in this area carry live rotifers or mix. I found a store that carries frozen rotifers so I am currently feeding them frozen rotifers and phytoplankton. Dose any one know where I can order live rotifers or mix to grow my own, or have any suggestions on how I can increase the survival rate? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I believe that they have already laid eggs again. So I need to get the hang this! Thank you!

very unlikely that you will be able to raise any without a live rotifer culture.

You can read more about cuturing rotifers here: http://www.reed-mariculture.com/rotifer/grow.asp

You can't get any ready in time for this batch. But you might try hatching some brine shrimp and putting them in within an hour of hatching. They'll be too big and some of the fry, if they can eat them will choke to death but you might have some that are able to survive, it's a long shot but probably your best bet. You can also pulverize some flake food and then mix a little with tank water so that it is in a good suspension and try using that. They won't usually eat it because it isn't alive but as long as you have the fry you might as well try.

Also, order a copy of the book "Clownfishes" by Joyce Wilkerson. It is regarded as the best introduction to clownfish breeding.

Clownfish lay on a very regular schedule once they start. Also, as long as the tank temp is consistant the eggs will hatch in the exact same number of days each time. Look for another batch of eggs (they will lay in the same place each time) and try and figure out how long the incubation is and how many days after hatching they lay again. This will all help you plan your cultures for raising the fry in the future.

Good Luck and Congratulations.

Thanks for your help! I ordered a large quanity of rotifiers and they should be here by friday or saturday. I went with your advice and fed them some brine shrimp yesterday and today. A very large majority are still alive and it's the end of the 3rd day. I am keeping my fingers crossed. I would love to get just one perc. from this batch. Thank you for all your help!
