Anybody any ideas what this is one of my clowns has these blotches in 6-7 areas they are roughly 1/8 th inch in size irregular shape and my other clown has one blotch they are not small black dots and the color of the blotch is not solid black more of a blotch for lack of a better word , within the affected area it's slightly transparent so you can see the orange color tone of the clown any ideas of what this is and how to cure this problem if it's a problem at all will be greatly appreciated

Hi Jaeden,

So if I understand right your clowns have small black pathchs of skin, like the pigment, is darker in some spots from the other parts of the body?

If that is the case I bet they have Melanism.

Some clowns show it when they host in differnt corals. basically the skin darkens in some spots due to the stings that the fish received.

What do they like to host in or swim by?

without a pic I cant tell for sure, but look up Melanism and see a pic and compare it.

I suspect they have that and if they do they will be fine, there is nothing that you need to do for it or that needs to be done. =)

Thanks for your response , what you have described is very similar to my clowns problems , I'll see if I can get a pick , I do have a tourch anemone and pulsing zenia could be the cause + some zoo's meanwhile I'll look up meanism thanks again

sorry for the bad pick but give you an idea the more I look at it ,it looks like a bruise or sting it's a pigment change within the fish itself not something that is attached to the fish like a parasite would be

Hi,

Yes that very much looks like melanism. Probably from either one of the corals you listed.

The good thing is they will be just fine. =)

thanks again for your response I'd hate to throw chemicals at them without knowing the problem in the first place .
