Clown fish help

I moved my one and only clown fish into my DT last night which already finished cycling.

I noticed that he has not been eating, stay in the top corner and breathing hard. I also notice stringy poo.

What this could be?

You may have other chemicals in the tank.

A few questions:

temp:
pH:
SG:
Salt type:
Length of cycle:
What is in the tank:
Phosphates:
Aeration/Skimmer:

How long have you had the clown? Is it wild or captive bred? What have you been feeding it?

Just finished cycling? What are your NH3, NO2 n NO3 numbers?

the tank was cycling for over a month, and I put chaeto in one of the chambers. The temperature has been kept at 78 and PH is around 8. Phosphate is 0. Salinity is at 1.026 and I am using one MP10 powerhead and Aquamaxx HOB-1 skimmer. The salt is Fauna Marin salt.

I don't know if it is wild caught or not. I got it for free from a fellow reefer as he had to be away for a long time and no one to look after his fish. I give him very tiny 1mm pellets, and also another different one that came from the past owner. He does not eat them.

I don't think he is doing good. He is not improving :(

He is not eating his regular food, stay on the bottom not active at all, and this morning he was tilting to the side and not swimming straight. He is also breathing heavy. I don't know what else I can do now. I wonder if I should take him out from QT and put him into DT (maybe he does not like QT), or continue with QT for the full week and move to Paraguard the week after.

Didn't quite answer my question. But I'll be blunt. Many say the tank is cycled but when in fact it is not. I always try to rule out the obvious first even if should be something that shouldn't be the problem just to cover ALL the bases.

So what were you NH3, NO2 and NO3 numbers at the end of your cycle?

Both nitrite and ammonia were 0 and nitrate was I think 8 ppm.

Only 8? Have you tested for them recently after the fish was introduced?

It was 17 ppm I think but then I did 50% WC before I put the clown in. I also have chaeto which helps consume the nitrate and phosphate.

2 days ago i tested and therebwas 5 ppm if Nitrate. No fish in there though. They arein QT tank. I added 6 snails int DT last night

It's RODI water
That doesn't automatically exclude the possibility of chlorine making it through. You would need to test with a suitable test for total chlorine to be sure.

With clownfish I would first want to exclude Brooklynella by giving every new fish a formalin bath.

For how long do you have that fish and was it quarantined?

This is the same water from tap that we are safe to drink everyday though. How much chlorine can it be there since it is drinkable? How to test for chlorine myself?

Instead of formalin, I am using Paraguard on the second week. The clown was quarantined for 2 weeks with no medication. Only in the tank for observation.

Drinking water can and usually will contain a lot of chlorine, especially in the US. If it poses a long term harm to humans is not clear, especially not with chloramines, though since it is a cheap and convenient way to sterilise water it is still widely used.
To fish, inverts and corals it is an instant threat.

how do I check if the water contains chlorine or not and how much?

If that is the case, then why most people just use RODI water?

I am using spectrapure and it does remove chlorine.

I think I know why he is sick. I think he got ammonia poisoning. I remember I waited too long to change the water in QT tank and I remember seeing algae developed on the glass and also some left over food.

What can I do to help him with ammonia poisoning? Any medication that I can buy?

It is possible that this tank has not cycled enough or correctly and the bacteria can not handle the load or the bacteria has died off.

Do you have any ammonia testers? I would get one.

I would start with water changes with good ASW mix.
