Clown fish sex change?

I have a tank raised clown that I want to add a mate to I am planning on buying a clown from a LFS and making sure it is 1/3 the size of my current clown, and mingling them to plan for them to mate hopefully when they begin not to be hostile towards one another how long does it take for them to become male or female and how can I tell if it has happened, If they are getting along and then assuming they are the female is the larger one?

well hope this makes sense it is making me scratch my head...

How long have you had your clown in the tank by itself? If its been there lets say.. a year. It will be a female, if not and is still sexless of a male, when you add the other clown (make sure its smaller) they will fight to become the dominate female. Ensuring that the new clown is small will hopefully cut-down on the amount of fighting.
Thats what i have read on this site. Go to the FAQ page for clownfish and read-up on pairing.

What type of clown?

Some clowns (maroons!) are known to be difficult to pair. Others (ocellaris) seem quite easy.

My ocellaris paired very quickly; I had the first for about 6 mo, then added a second, very tiny (1") and it was a quick pairing!

I have had a maroon clown for 13 months now. (female) about 3 3/4" and it does have the gold stripe and not the white. I just got a little maroon with a white stripe a few weeks back.
The first day was hard for the little guy but was not that bad to what people say. There in a 65 gal reef setup.
3 days later they are already showing signs of pairing. There now hosting in 2 BTA's and together at times. As to pair up I'm told depends on the tank setup and size. But these are the toughest clowns from this class type.

I just recently added an tiny allardi to try and get my larger one to pair with (she killed the first one). This one is mild compared to the last time I tried pairing, although I still think it is more of a territory fight with the Allardi in my tank. I will let you know when I get my 125 setup.
