Would like to get a green clown goby to add to my 40g reef. Have all softies now - many shrooms and zoo's - getting an hammer this week. guy at one store stays goby will eat zoo's- guy at another says not. thoughts? thanks

Nope, I don't think the clown gobies will eat zoas. I have never heard of this ever! I've had several myself and never had a problem. I think the guy who said they eat zoas, unless some recent rash of zoa-eating gobies has come in to the fish markets, is a total loon. I mean have you seen the size of a clown goby's mouth? It's tiny!

I guess you have those really small zoas and no food EVER it's possible. But I didn't feed my tank for about 2 years (before I got a tang) and mine never ate zoas.

Did he mean all gobies or just the clowns?

Disclaimer: if this turns out to be true, it will be ME who sounds like a loon.

Clown gobies are no threat to your zoas or softies. AFAIK in the wild they do nip patches in SPS corals to breed, but even then they don't kill the coral, it heals over in time.
My ycg hosts a fox coral and spends his day visiting the other LPS corals one by one, he never hurts a thing and never even gives a second look to my zoas :)

Hey there,

You'll be fine with the clown goby and zoanthids. I have never had a problem with them bothering my zoa's... Like ACBlinky said they can nip at acros but mainly colonies not really frags something like a nesting behavior ;) FUN! You wont have acros so you'll be fine! So go for it they are awesome!!

try to get one that eats frozen food before you buy it since some people have problems getting them to eat. Also I have them in an almost all zoo tank they are fine
