Clown pairing question

This is long-winded for a simple question, so here goes:

Tank is almost 4 months old. Did contain 2 CB Occys. One seemed to come down with something and passed (before "she" passed, they were glued to each others side,; even slept touching each other). So the main tank is left with one Occy about an 1 1/2" long (very bright orange).

I bought an ORA pair from Divers Den and put them in QT. One is bigger than the other, with the smaller one being much more pale. Neither is as bright orange as the lone Occy in the main tank.

When QT is over, my plan was to remove the lone Occy and put him in QT, then move the "pair" into the DT. BUT...the "pair" dont seem to have much to do with each other. In QT, they are a foot apart or move, dont seem real interested in the other, and don't sleep together. Finally, the question:

Should I leave them as a "pair", since DD sold them as a pair? Or could I just put one in the DT with the lone Occy?

FWIW, when the QT has served its purpose and no more fish are to be introduced, I am going to get another Occy and add a carpet and make it clown only w/ nem tank. Its a 40 Breeder. Will also serve as a frag tank.

I would leave them as a pair but that's just me. You CAN make a new pair but be careful that you are not trying to pair two females. I also wanted to let you know that your long term plan of two pairs of clowns in a fourty breeder pronobly will not end well.

Thanks for the advice, but where did I say 2 pair in a 40 breeder?

"FWIW, when the QT has served its purpose and no more fish are to be introduced, I am going to get another Occy..."

One more Occy will join the lone clown in 40BR making a pair, and one pair in the DT.:hmm3:

IMO, you're pushing it, putting a carpet nem in a 40 gallon tank. They get huge & will quickly outgrow that tank. I hope you have an exit strategy. Good luck with the clown pairs; their behavior is fascinating.

After reading this, its sounds like I was being snappy. Didnt mean to come across that way, just pointing out I'm not putting 2 pairs of clowns in the same tanks

Good point. I see Live Aquaria says 50 gal minimum. I WILL find the loner a mate to make a pair, but dont know what type anemone or color clown. Maybe a smaller nem and black occy?

My wife is upset saying "he is lonely and misses his girlfriend":hmm3:

If you're looking for new "pair" mates, remember to get them as small as possible. Females are the dominant ones, and wont take very kindly to another full grown female in their tank.

Sorry i didnt read it right. I just figured that they would all eventually make it into your main tank. Sorry about that. Good luck.

While we are on the subject of pairing, will a mature occy that has lost a mate know or care if a young percula is introduced as the new mate, or is it any port in a storm?
