Clown Questions

Hello I am thinking of breeding some clown fish but still having a few questions.

Do I have to buy the clownfish as a pair or can I just buy 2 of thesehttp://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=15+27+755&pcatid=755?

Ive read how Juv. clownfish are sex-less and the dominant will be female

Also what can you do with all of the babies that hatch out? Im not looking to make money on it or anything but dont know if I can keep a lot of clownfish (if I can hatch and feed them )

Last Question: If I want them to stop spawning is there a way, cause I heard the egg could cause problems in filter(might be wrong)

From what I understand:

Yes, all juvi's can go either way with the most dominant becoming the female. Your link didn't work for me, but I'm going to assume they're percs or occelaris? You should be able to go with two of those, but be aware that it might take up to 2 years or even more for a pair to lay eggs (female needs to mature). You'd probably be better off trying to find someone selling a pair that have been in their tank for a while - then fattening them up to lay for you. Not sure what you'd do with any babies - contact your LFS for credit? I can't say about eggs clogging a filter. Most with a reef/protein skimmer don't seem to have a problem, but if you are running a micron filter or something I suppose it could - but I think it's more likely for the just-hatched fish to become food.

I'd say start digging and reading. There are more than a few people on here breeding clowns so they'll be able to help you even more once you have some more specific questions.

I think I will probally just wait the 2 years giving me time to get a fry tank up and running. Also plenty time for research and kinda want to watch them grow up

For the most part** it is just a one way street, from male to female.

** Rod has reported that one of his female Clarkiis (( believe it was a Clarkii )), reverted back to a male, but this is the only case I have ever heard of.
