Clown stung?

I got a new BTA a couple of days ago, and my pair of False Black Occ's started hosting it in about 2 seconds. I just took a close look at the female, who basically lives in the BTA now, and I can see what looks like miniature porcupine quills stuck in the flesh all around her mouth. Did she get too agressive with the BTA and got stung? Is there anything I should do for her, or will the "quills" just dissolve in time?

MarinaP: Thank you very much for the quick response. It makes perfect sense....I have been seeing some really big bristle worms lately, and actually used one of those bristle worm traps to grab 2 of them already. They were about 8 to 12 inches long. Do they harm anything? Should I try to trap more of them, or just leave them alone?

You have 12" long bristleworms in a 12G nano ? :eek2:

What do you feed your fish? Stakes for dinner? :)

In general, bristleworms are pretty harmless and are good scavengers. I would, however, remove those large ones and keep the small ones.

Wear gloves.

Most LFS sell a bristle worm trap. The one I got is a green tube, that slides into a slightly larger diameter tube (kinda like a trombone slide). It has a little compartment in the middle to put some bait, and the tubes are plugged on each end with a cone thats tarts out equal to the tubes diameter, and then narrows to a small opening for the worm to squeeze into. Once it gets in, it cant get out. I bait it and put it in the tank after lights out, and by morning I have a worm caught. I have no idea how they got that big in a 12g! I might keep trapping them for a while longer to thin out the herd....I have enough of a cleanup crew already.

Are you sure the Loch Ness Monster isn't hiding in there too? That is pretty big for you little tank!

raoul: my tank is like one of those little dogs that have no idea how little they really are. I have the RC community to thank...I learned how to make 12 gallons of water go a long way with all that I have learned here. Also....Kyle, at Sapphire Aquatics has been working with me on a skimmer that fits my AquaPod with the lid closed and no mods tot he chambers. So far the "beta" skimmer is pulling all sorts of stuff out of my tank. With all this help, and some hard work, a Nano can definitely hang with the big dogs!
