Clown Tang

Has anyone had success at keeping a clown tang alive for any length of time. I have had 3 over the course of 5 years but the longest I've ever been able to keep one is maybe 6 mnths.

I have a friend who has had one for a while but this was in a 1000 gallon tank. They are known to be difficult fish and highly aggressive.

I'd also agree. I've tried two before, one was given to me as a last bid effort to save it, which failed. Another was perfectly healthy and feeding but lasted two weeks nietter had ich. This is the only fish I've failed to keep..... Stunning fish too.

IMHO a sohal is a better choice if you want a large tang.

Yes, the Sohal is easy, gorgeous, although extremely aggressive.

True, but no more so than a clown tang. I just assume if you want a large acanthurus tang, you just have to be prepared for the aggression. Pity because they are stunning.

I've had my clown tang for about 18 months at this point in a 180g tank. While I probably wouldn't do it again, I got him small enough and he was the last fish I added to my tank. It definately took some time and care to get him eating as well.

He does show slight aggression towards a hippo tang when I don't feed heavily daily but he isn't fully mature quite yet either, so it could just be a warning :P

He has a bigger home for when I'm ready to get rid of him.

Beautiful fish though.
