Clown trigger compatibility

I have a mature 2 yo clown trigger that does not play well with others. I am hoping to introduce new tank mates (killed the green bird wrasse) his last buddy and now needs company. Any suggestions on introducing techniques and species? Thinking harlequin tusk and maybe changing up my aquascape first? Have it in a 110 with live rock...

well since you have already said he dosent play well with others and killed his last buddy and he is only in a 110g i would say leave him in solitary confinment.. in that size tank i dont think you are going to have any chance of getting a tank mate to live with him and survive...

I agree with the solitary confinement. You could try some other triggers (blueline, undy, etc.) if you had a bigger tank.

doesn't sound like that bad boy wants any company! definitely not a HT, they are not the most assertive fish, even with the blue fangs.

As grouperhead said, you could try another aggressive trigger if you had a bigger tank (210, 240, 300?)

How big is your trigger?

He'll ultimately evict just about any tankmate in that tank.

I think a Clown Trigger is the last fish you can add to any tank. If you want tank mates after the fact, you'll have to switch/upgrade your tank.

My Clown gets along with his current tank mates (he was added last) but would most certainly kill anything new. He doesn't even like my algae scraper...

wow. they sound really nasty. i sort of wanted one, but not if they are THAT mean...

Well, in his defense, my algae scraper is at the end of a long handle, triangle shaped, and yellow/black in color. I think he thinks it's another clown trigger and attacks it.

He does the tail bumping thingy, rather than bite at it.

Mine used to bite the white magnetic algae scraper.

I've got a magfloat all scarred up from my undy biting it...they'll mouth anything and everything in the tank.

Especially if it moves, but even if it doesn't.

When I had my Clown trigger, he was in with a Porcupine puffer, Volitan lion, and a large pair of perc clowns. The trigger was added last and was maybe 2 inches - just a little guy. He got along great with everyone, and loved being hand fed. But potential suiters should be somewhat larger than he is, and with the ability to defend themselves.

I second the lunare wrasse as mine could care less about him. Actually doesn't bother with tangs either and I added them way after the clown trigger. Just added a dogface and a lion fish today and all is well so far. My clown is only 4-5 inches though.

How about a clown tang. they are real mean

Putting a second aggressive fish that will also outgrow the tank is not a great solution to the problem at hand (same issue with the lunare wrasse).
In addition, clown tangs don't have a great history of survival in captivity.

Sorry I over looked the tank size. The clown tang I have is over five years old, so I am told. I have only had him seven months.
