Clown uses hair algae in place of anemone

So I've had a bad hair algae problem for awhile now. Some if it is very long (over an 1" strands easy) My clown fish started kinda playing/hiding in it. I would see her lying on the sand bed, so I'd freak out and run over to the tank. Then she'd see me and pop right up and swim to the surface begging for food. Well this went on for about 2 months mostly in the same location. So she's obviously not dying. So today and saw her down in it deep, so I snuck up on the tank and watched her. She lays flat on her side and does her best to dig into the algae. Every 15 seconds she wiggles around trying to push in deeper against the algae, but it's really just a little algae and rock. So later today I noticed she has a small chunk missing from her tail fin. She is my only fish in the tank, so could this be damage from her little playing dead shows?

I have a pair of clowns that are doing the same thing with some GHA. Hopefully when I add a nem they will host that instead.
