clown with problems w/pic

I first noticed this 2 days ago. My first thought was that he bumped into the Korolia. I also thought that he might have gotten munched on by another fish, but all I have is another clown, a goby, a flame-hawk, and 3 tangs. As I looked at him this morning, his fin seems to be eroding a little more. What do you think happened? How should I treat? Will his fin ever grow back?

He's missing more than just the tail. I'd second the idea of a hitchhiker, probably a mantis.

Regardless of what it is, I don't think that'll ever grow back.. you should probably put him out of his misery and place him in the freezer. :(

My fish have had whole tail fins grow back but that looks like it is into the body and flesh. Poor dear.

freezer isn't the most humane. Clover oil will put him into a comma and kill him much quicker.

BigB, so sorry about that beautiful clown...

I guess we could open a discussion on whether fish feel pain... somewhere here on RC I read that fish lack that part of a central nervous system which transmits pain to the brain... ?

This one says yes: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/2983045.stm
or
This one says no:

It's hard to cut through the debate, because of all of the PETA propoganda...

I wish I could remember which issue it was so I could post it but "Flyfisherman" did a study and posted the results with names and notations from it, so it was actually done by biologists. They did their study because of "catch and release" practices. The results showed that fish do lack that part of the brain that indicates pain. However that doesn't mean that they aren't aware that something's happened.

WELL, my question is if they cant feel pain why do they react when you do things that cause pain to them? They can feel pain, look at what they do as you fillet them when they are still alive. But, that wound on that clown is well into the spine. I do not believe that he could heal, but, put him in a QT and see if he heals to a nub lol!
